Manoir de Laize is situated 15 minutes north west of the town of Falaise and sits within 10 acres of meadows and paddocks, with abundant wildlife and a small river suitable for stream fishing. The villages of St Germain le Vasson and Ussy are both within cycling distance (2km) and have boulangeries and small general stores. The nearest choice of restaurants are at Falaise or Thury Harcourt, as well as the Swiss Normandy capital of Clecy and of course Caen itself. Within one hour are the wonderful towns of Bayeux, Deauville, Hornfleur and the many villages along the beaches offering a wide choice of eating and exploration. Outdoor activities such as canoeing, cycle hire, hang gliding and fishing are widely available at Clecy, Thury Harcourt and Pont d’Ouilly. There is a nice riding stables in nearby St Germain le Vasson, with horses and ponies for all ages. From Caen there are regular trains to Paris and Bayeux. We advise that you do need a car to make the most of your holiday here, although there are buses to Caen from adjoining villages. If you are arriving from Paris by train, there are several car hire companies at Caen station. Our nearest ferry port is Caen Ouistreham, 40 minutes from the Manoir. This route is served by Britanny Ferries from Portsmouth. Although this is a longer sea crossing, it is very convenient and in high season there is plenty to occupy children on board. Cherbourg (also Britanny Ferries from Poole or Portsmouth) is approximately a two hours drive. The Channel Tunnel and Calais area is approximately three hours. If you are planning to bring your own bicycles, we have ample covered storage. We provide all your bed linen, tea towels, tablecloth, and for each occupant a bath sheet, hand towel and flannel. Please do remember your pool/beach towels for outside use. |
